Adrienne Brown

Adrienne Brown is a fifth-year PhD student in the Department of English. Her dissertation, “Reading Between the Skylines: The Skyscraper in American Modernism,” takes the peculiar absence of the skyscraper in modernist prose as its starting point, tracing the structure’s murky textuality in the early 20th century to the chaotic spatial epistemologies of an increasingly urban and ethnic America.  Her other research interests include the American underclass, critical race studies, popular culture (particularly music), narrative theory, and Modernisms.
